RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – A longtime Reno nonprofit is entering a new era of service. The 1701 Group, formerly known as the Assistance League of Reno-Sparks, broke ground Thursday morning on its future Philanthropic Support Center at 1701 Vassar Street.
Local and state leaders, including Sparks City Councilwoman Charlene Bybee and representatives from the offices of Sens. Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen, joined volunteers and community partners to celebrate the milestone. The organization says the new center will help it better serve vulnerable populations, including children, seniors, veterans, the homeless and the hungry.
The all-volunteer nonprofit operates multiple programs providing clothing, food, educational support and emergency assistance. Last year, its 375-plus members donated 55,000 volunteer hours, impacting more than 33,000 people and contributing $1.3 million in community support…
