Nature area or sports fields? Board to decide on plan for massive park along Truckee River

A massive regional park along the Truckee River in Reno — in the planning stages for years — is getting closer to reality, with the Truckee River Flood Management Authority board set to decide soon between two design options.

The agency is requesting public feedback on the two final choices — one a mostly natural area and the other a primarily recreational facility, with 11 flat fields for soccer, lacrosse or other sports.

Board members are expected to choose in October, clearing the way for a $60 million regional flood project that would save billions in possible flood damage and also double as a large public facility.
