Reno Fire saves residents, pets in Meadow Wood Apartments fire

A fast-acting response from the Reno Fire Department successfully contained an apartment fire that spread through the common attic and roof of the Meadow Wood Apartments this evening, located at 6200 Meadowood Mall Cir. While the immediate danger has passed, the blaze has significantly impacted residents, displacing dozens and leaving many without power.

Reno Fire Department Chief Shawn Grady reported that crews were dispatched at 6:51 PM and arrived on scene within five minutes. A total of 37 personnel, including six engine companies, one ladder truck, and safety and medic units, battled the blaze. The fire, which originated in a single unit, quickly extended into the building’s common attic and roof structure, ultimately affecting eight units.

The American Red Cross of Northern Nevada is currently helping three families whose homes were destroyed by the fire. On top of that, dozens of people from 21 other apartments are also affected, left without power and unable to go home. The Red Cross is teaming up with emergency management and apartment staff to make sure everyone has a safe place to stay…
