RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County broke ground Thursday on the second phase of the Sparks Boulevard Capacity Improvement Project.
The $86 million project will widen Sparks Boulevard from four lanes to six between the Interstate 80 ramps and Baring Boulevard and is scheduled to take two years to complete. It will also rehabilitate the existing lanes north through Shadow Lane. Additional improvements include a new multiuse path, bike lanes, sidewalks, trees, sound walls, and ADA-compliant infrastructure.
Approximately 95% of the project is federally funded through Surface Transportation Block Grant dollars. The remaining local match is funded through RTC fuel tax revenues…
