Carson City Sheriff’s Office warns of increased bear activity

Carson City officials are warning residents about a rise in reported bear activity throughout the area.

In an online Facebook post, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office encouraged the public to secure all potential attractants to prevent bears from accessing human foods.

The post included guidance from BearWise, a program focused on reducing human-bear conflicts:

  • Never feed or approach bears
  • Secure food, garbage, and recycling
  • Remove bird feeders when bears are active
  • Never leave pet food outdoors
  • Clean and store grills and smokers
  • Alert neighbors to bear activity
