Small chance of showers and storms returns to Northern Nevada to close out the weekend

RENO, NEV. — After reaching a high temperature of 91 degrees at RNO on Saturday, we’re expecting temperatures to reach the upper 80’s in the lower valleys, and the lower 70’s in Sierra communities for your Sunday. We’ll see a bit of sun to close out the weekend, but by the afternoon and evening time, more clouds will move into the area.

We pick up a small chance of afternoon and evening showers Sunday, thanks to low pressure parked just to the west of Seattle and Portland, and a cold front associated with it. As the front moves closer to the area, we pick up about a 20% chance of Showers and Storms here in the valley, and in the Sierra. Our Euro model is showing a small chance of showers, while our GFS model keeps us nice and dry with just a few extra clouds. If you’re out and about, including recreating on the lake, it’s best to keep an eye on the sky!

The afternoon Zephyr winds are back as well. We could see the occasional gusts upwards of 20 mph, mainly in the afternoon and evening. Gusts could be higher along the Sierra ridges. If showers and storms develop, gusts could be much higher across the area…
