Reno unveils new pedestrian hybrid beacon to boost safety on West 7th Street

The city of Reno, in collaboration with the Reno Police Department and the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County, has announced the installation of a new Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB) on West 7th Street, east of McCarran Boulevard.

This initiative aims to enhance pedestrian safety on a high-risk corridor characterized by heavy vehicle traffic, high speeds, and a lane merge.

The PHB is designed to improve pedestrian safety by displaying a sequence of flashing yellow, solid yellow, and solid red lights to alert drivers to slow down and stop, allowing pedestrians to cross safely. The location was chosen due to the high volume of pedestrian crossings, with more than 50 per day, including a significant number by individuals using wheelchairs…
