Defendant Repeatedly Stabbed Victim in Brutal 2023 Attack
David Abara, 56, has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of Randal Lowery. The sentence was handed down Thursday by the Honorable Kathleen Sigurdson, who also imposed an additional 8 to 20 years for a deadly weapons enhancement.
Abara was arrested by Sparks Police detectives and Nevada State Police Parole and Probation (P&P) in connection with the fatal stabbing that occurred on June 7, 2023. According to reports, Abara repeatedly stabbed Lowery in the face, neck, and arms before leaving him to die at Fisherman’s Park, along the Tahoe Pyramid Bikeway Path.
The horrific crime was discovered when a passerby reported a man lying in the dirt, surrounded by blood. A subsequent review of video surveillance from the Truckee Meadows Water Authority captured the brutal attack, showing a man, later identified as Abara, yelling at the victim before striking him multiple times.
