Chief committed to new Washoe Valley firehouse, but TMFR ‘cannot afford’ temporary station

WASHOE VALLEY, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — New Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue chief Richard Edwards said Tuesday he is ‘absolutely committed’ to building a long-promised consolidated fire station in Washoe Valley but acknowledged the department cannot afford the project or proposed temporary alternatives.

In an update to the Washoe County Board of Fire Commissioners, TMFR staff said construction costs have ballooned to $16 million, a figure that’s more than doubled since 2021.
