Teen charged in Reno family murders found competent to stand trial

A teenage girl from Reno, Mashenka Reid, has been found competent to stand trial for the murders of her father and younger brother, the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office announced.

According to court documents obtained by News 4-Fox 11, 17-year-old Mashenka Reid called 911 on February 9 and confessed to shooting her father, 39-year-old Justin Reid, and her young brother at their apartment near Silver Sky Parkway. She allegedly told dispatchers she “couldn’t resist the urge to kill somebody.”
