A sheriff’s office in Nevada recently made headlines after giving back in a special way. A young boy dealing with a kidney cancer diagnosis got his chance to sit in the sheriff’s seat. Since the story has come out, the boy’s mother has also shared some details about his story.
One Carson City Boy Had An Eventful Day As He Got To Be A Temporary Sheriff
Soren Tucker is a young Carson City resident who was diagnosed with a rare form of kidney cancer, a stage four Wilms tumor, back in January. He has also been named the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation’s local childhood warrior.
Soren also recently got a special honor. He was recently made sheriff for a day in Washoe County. The day would also prove to be an eventful one.
According to News 4, Soren and his family got to spend the morning with Sheriff Darin Ballam. Other events included them checking out the S.W.A.T. truck, getting their fingerprints taken, and even meeting a member of the K-9 unit.
Soren Tucker’s Family Was At His Side During The Day
Speaking with KRNV News 4, Corey Solferino, the WCSD undersheriff, shared that, “We did a crash course in law enforcement today. We started the day with a little introduction. And the sheriff and our community mascot, if you will, Chance, our therapy dog.” Soren got to meet with people from various fields, including records, the crime lab, and the S.W.A.T. team.
Soren’s mother Kimberly, also expressed her gratitude, noting, “Our boys got to see the inside of the sheriff’s office.” She shared that he has already undergone two surgeries, in which his kidney and parts of his liver were removed.
Kimberly continued, “We’ve spent a lot of our time in the house and away from the public. But Soren is really getting close to the end of his treatment. So, it’s just been exciting to get to do something like a normal kid. And something special just for our boys.”…
