RENO, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — Accessory dwelling units will soon be allowed in the city of Reno after council members unanimously advanced the controversial ADU ordinance during Wednesday’s meeting.
The vote marks a drastic change in perspectives on ADUs in the past several years — a previous city council, which did include Mayor Hillary Schieve, unanimously shot down a similar proposal in 2018.
Sometimes referred to as ‘granny flats’ or ‘in-law quarters,’ ADUs are small housing units built on existing single family home lots.
