PBS Reno grant supports free STEM workshops in Humboldt and Elko schools

PBS Reno has received a $15,000 grant from the NV Energy Foundation to continue its Curiosity Classroom program, which offers free hands-on STEM workshops to students across northern Nevada, including classrooms in Humboldt and Elko counties.

The program reaches more than 125,000 students each school year. In 2024-25, PBS Reno held nearly 6,800 classroom workshops, nearly 1,000 robotics-focused lessons, and gave out more than 47,000 free books.

Curiosity Classroom sessions include a short video, a read-aloud, and activities tied to state education standards. PBS Reno says the grant will help ensure every teacher’s request is filled, even as the station works to offset a $1.3 million loss in federal funding…
