SPARKS, Nev. — The Sparks City Council voted Monday to initiate the process of creating an ordinance to regulate data centers in the city.
Data centers have become a hot topic in Nevada as more and more are popping up around the state with little guidance on how to regulate these relatively new establishments. But unlike some local governments that have yet to establish regulations for the resource-intensive facilities, the City of Sparks is working on an ordinance that would do just that.
“There’s a lot of buzz in the Truckee Meadows with data centers, surrounding data centers and the demands that they put on the area, and Sparks wants to ensure that should someone come in and is ready to move forward, the right standards are in place to move them along appropriately and that we aren’t playing catchup,” Community Services Director for the City of Sparks Jim Rundle said…
