The Reno City Council is set to discuss and potentially approve an interlocal agreement with the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) for the installation and construction of wildlife fencing along State Route 341, also known as Geiger Grade during their Wednesday meeting. This initiative is part of the city’s Horse Protection Project – South Phase. The agreement, which extends the termination date to June 30, 2026, will see NDOT reimbursing the city up to $280,000 for the work.
In December 2024, the council had previously approved a similar agreement with NDOT for improvements, including fencing and a cattleguard, but the project faced delays due to difficulties in obtaining easements. A new fence alignment was necessary, prompting the need for a revised agreement.
The project aims to complete a continuous fence line from Kenneth Way to Toll Road, where the Nevada Department of Agriculture has extended its fence line.
