RENO, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — The Domestic Violence Resource Center in Reno is about to get a massive upgrade — one that leaders say will finally meet the growing demand for help in Washoe County.
Set to break ground Nov. 4, the new 40,000-square-foot facility on Vassar Street will be the county’s first purpose-built domestic violence center. When it opens in early 2027, it will quadruple the center’s current shelter capacity, housing up to 100 people at a time and bringing all of its services — from counseling and legal help to financial guidance and child support programs — under one roof.
Executive director Kristen Kennedy says the expansion is long overdue. “When you’re serving over 4,200 individuals a year and over 17,000 bed nights a year, it just isn’t sufficient,” she said. “We are full 90% of the time.”…
