Community rallies to reforest fire-scorched Davis Creek with 300 new Jeffrey pines

Areas scorched by last year’s devastating Davis Fire are getting a fresh start this month — and it’s all thanks to an outpouring of community support and a big boost from Moana Nursery.

Starting this week, Davis Creek Regional Park will receive 150 new Jeffrey pine trees, with another 150 going to nearby St. James Village, one of the neighborhoods hardest hit by the fire. The trees, along with soil additives and fertilizer, were all donated by Moana Nursery.

“Jeffrey pines are a resilient and ecologically valuable choice for restoring fire-damaged high-desert landscapes,” said Deanna Gescheider, Moana Nursery’s director of community engagement. “They’re naturally adapted to our region’s dry, rocky soils and can handle harsh temperature swings — which makes them perfect for helping these areas recover and stabilize after wildfire.”…
