Reno is taking a significant step in addressing substance abuse with the opening of the ‘Reno Stronger’ facility, located near the corner of 4th and Sutro streets.
The facility aims to tackle the root causes of substance abuse by focusing on behavioral and mental health. Operational since March, Reno Stronger offers a range of services, including psychiatry, primary care, and treatments for mental illness and substance disorders. Intensive outpatient sessions are available nine hours per week, or regular outpatient sessions once a week, based on individual assessments.
The nonprofit employs evidence-based and holistic treatment methods, such as art therapy, mindfulness programs, group therapy, and even Reiki healing. A unique feature of the facility is its gym, which Reno Stronger President Grant Denton emphasizes as crucial for recovery. “Part of working out when it comes to recovery and treatment is developing one’s discipline. We’re going to have to develop discipline in our lives… developing [a] relationship with pain and understanding your body and the connection to the soul and spirit, so it’s really important that we pay attention to that and that we make that piece of our holistic recovery.”…
