RENO, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — A year and a half after a devastating house fire in a South Reno neighborhood, the charred remains of the home continue to stand, causing frustration and concern among residents.
Kristi Macmahon, a nearby neighbor, described the fire as “terrifying” and “very unsettling.”
The 88-year-old homeowner and her adult son escaped the May 10, 2024 fire safely, but the house remains a constant reminder of the disaster. Macmahon said, “My kids have to see it and we have to talk about it every time we walk by, and it is scary to them to see a house like that.”
The fire also affected neighboring homes, with Connie Gazway, a next-door neighbor, recalling how “the vinyl windows melted” and glass broke on the window on her house. Another neighbor, Dan Larson said “The side wall of the garage was taken out, the electrical panel, the gas almost exploded,” he said “It was smoke damaged throughout. We were out of the house for over a year.”…
