SPARKS, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — Residents of a small rental complex at 2nd St. and Victorian Ave. in Sparks are voicing concerns over unsafe living conditions and feeling trapped due to financial constraints.
Kevin Van Arkel, a disabled tenant, said, “He’s got us trapped here. I spend dime to dime because I don’t make anything.” Another resident, who wished to remain anonymous, reported a broken shower since March 22 and faulty electrical outlets, with some hanging from the wall. The tenant also mentioned that another resident went without power for four months.
Residents say the complex has a history of issues, including a heater that was only fixed last year after about five years of disrepair, a bathroom faucet that doesn’t work, boarded-up oven spaces, falling ceiling tiles in the laundry room, and pest infestations.
Garry, a tenant for 35 years, said, “He don’t take care of his property,” referring to the landlord, listed on Washoe County records as Singh 8 LLC.
Records show that he owns the Midget Market on Victorian Ave. as well as the four-plex and two other apartments behind the mart…
