RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Dr. Billie Cassé from Reno Tahoe Dermatology stopped by Morning Break to discuss androgenic female and male hair loss. This type of hormone related hair loss is also known as male pattern and female pattern hair loss.
Androgenetic alopecia affects approximately 40% of women by age 50, with the risk increasing significantly after menopause. It is characterized by diffuse thinning on the top of the scalp and is less common than in men, though it still affects an estimated 30 million women in the U.S.. The condition is progressive, often starting as early as the late teens, and can have a significant emotional impact due to the societal link between hair and female identity.
