Atmospheric river could bring Sierra snow, valley rain to Northern Nevada; see forecast

Northern Nevada will stay unseasonably warm and dry through Veterans Day before a Pacific system moves in mid- to late week.

The National Weather Service in Reno says Monday could challenge record highs in the low 70s before the pattern shifts Wednesday night through Friday, bringing strong winds, rain in the valleys and mountain snow across the Sierra.

Forecasters say the storm, fueled by an atmospheric river, could drop several inches of rain in the higher elevations and more than a foot of snow on Sierra passes such as Donner Pass. The Climate Prediction Center has placed the Sierra under a moderate risk of heavy precipitation and heavy snow from Nov. 13–14.
