Reno considers registry, fees for non-profits to boost oversight

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Reno city leaders are exploring the implementation of a formal registry and fee structure for nonprofit organizations operating within city limits, citing concerns over public safety and land use. The proposed changes aim to address issues arising from non-profits’ current exemption from business licensing requirements.

Directors from the city’s Planning and Public Safety offices emphasize the need for critical information about each non-profit. Without registration, the City is often not aware of nonprofit operations, which can lead to incompatible land uses or limited safety reviews compared to commercial businesses.
