Winter storm spreads rain across western Nevada and snow in the Sierra

A colder storm is moving through western Nevada on Monday, bringing rain to the valleys and new snow to the Sierra. Showers that began in the mountains early in the day are expected to spread into the Reno-Carson-Minden area by the afternoon.

Most lower elevations will see rain, but snow could mix in overnight as temperatures drop. Snow levels fall to around 5,500 to 6,000 feet. Tahoe elevations could see 3 to 6 inches, with lighter amounts at lake level. A winter weather advisory was in effect starting at 10 p.m. Sunday and continues through 4 p.m. Monday.

Travel over the passes may slow at times, and slick roads are possible in some lower elevations. Showers linger into Tuesday before a brief break arrives Wednesday…
