Washoe County Search and Rescue pulls 5 people, 2 dogs from snowy Verdi backroads

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team was called out late Monday night after a group of off-roaders got stuck in deep snow along the dirt extension of Garson Road in Verdi.

Deputies say one vehicle became stuck while off-roading and called for help — but the second vehicle that tried to assist ended up getting stuck too.

Search and rescue deployed volunteers from its Specialized Vehicle Unit, along with a medic, and sent side-by-sides into the mountains to reach the stranded group. Crews located both vehicles and safely transported five people and two dogs back to solid ground…
