Nevada schools implement phone pouches to boost focus and reduce issues

Carson City and Washoe County school districts have already implemented “phone-away” policies ahead of next year’s statewide requirement. Carson City Superintendent Andrew Fueling says the district began using Yondr pouches during the 2024 school year. The pouches lock students’ phones during the school day.

“We purchased these Yondr pouches before the last school year,” Fueling said. “Phones are put in the pouch at the beginning of the day and don’t come out until the end.”

Students have mixed feelings about the change. Carson High senior Leah Vazquez says she’s seen a difference in her grades since the pouches were introduced. Junior Austin Inneman says he’s “50–50” on the policy, calling it not all good and not all bad…
