California man who disappeared months ago may have been dragged away by wildlife, officials say

GOODYEARS BAR, Calif. — Months after a California man disappeared, officials believe he may have died and that local wildlife likely dragged his body away.

The Sierra County Sheriff’s Office said on Sunday that 78-year-old Gil Clark was reported missing Aug. 14 but was last seen either on Aug. 5 or Aug. 6. His disappearance prompted the sheriff’s office and Nevada County’s search and rescue unit to search through four miles of Highway 49, an area Clark was known to frequently walk around.

First responders also searched the area near his residence, including wooded terrain behind his home. During that search, the sheriff’s office noted a lot of bear activity, and neighbors had recently reported mountain lion activity nearby…
