Northern California car crash on US-50 kills parents, one identified as battalion fire chief

Around 3:11 p.m. on Sunday, the California Highway Patrol responded to Highway 50 east of Kyburz in El Dorado County for a solo car crash. Inside the vehicle were a man, a woman, an 8-year-old child, and an 11-year-old child. CHP said the adults were the children’s parents and were pronounced dead at the scene. The children were flown to a hospital with major injuries.

The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Coroner Division identified the victims as Ryan Paul Rizzuto, 42, of Reno, and Danielle Marie Rizzuto, 41, of Reno. Ryan Rizzuto was a Fire Battalion Chief at the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District in the Tahoe area.
