Miss Nevada USA makes history at Miss USA pageant with alopecia advocacy

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A Las Vegas woman who was crowned Miss Nevada in July made history at the Miss USA pageant by becoming the first contestant with alopecia to compete at the national level.

Mary Sickler, 22, a pre-law student, decided to embrace her hair loss and compete without a wig at the Miss USA pageant in Reno. She made the top 5 and used her platform to advocate for alopecia awareness.

“I’ve been competing in the USA organization since I was just 14 years old. So being able to finally be crowned and walk on the Miss USA stage was a dream come true,” Sickler said.
