RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – The Truckee Meadows Quilters (TMQ) recently presented 15 handmade, twin-sized quilts and a check for $3,000 to the Veterans Guest House (VGH) in Reno. The donation aims to provide comfort and essential support for veterans and their families seeking medical care in the Reno/Sparks area.
The $3,000 donation, raised by TMQ members throughout the year, will directly fund lodging and transportation for VGH guests. The quilts, known as “opportunity quilts,” were crafted by TMQ members to offer “warm hugs” to those staying at the guest house. A VGH representative noted the quilts are also dog-friendly, adding an extra touch of home for veterans with service animals.
“They are big quilts. They’re bigger than we normally make because they wanted twin sized quilts that can be put on the beds here,” said Linda Kennedy, President of Truckee Meadows Quilters. “It’s our way of showing love. It’s how we love others.”…
