Grantsville’s varsity girls and boys teams sent several wrestlers to the prestigious Reno
Tournament of Champions in Nevada and returned home with two placers: Chloe Critchlow and Courtney Mecham. Critchlow, a junior who won a state championship in 2024, captured fifth place in the 140-pound bracket, while Mecham, a 2023 state champion, earned eighth place at 130 pounds. The girls’ team placed 18th out of 51 teams from across the West and Midwest, with competitors from Texas, California, Utah, Idaho, Arizona and Colorado.
“Both of these wrestlers delivered gritty performances to earn their places. They had to wrestle from behind, maintain composure, and fight through tough situations,” Coach Jake Phillips of the Cowboys said. “They both have shown they can do hard things, and I am extremely proud of how they show their grit.
“Having four girls reach the quarterfinals was exciting; I believe that if we had our full girls team, we could have placed even more wrestlers.”…
