Atmospheric river brings record rainfall to Reno, blankets Lake Tahoe with fresh snow

The weather pattern in northern Nevada has been all over the place for the Christmas holiday thanks to an atmospheric river originating near Hawaii. More active weather is on the way for Friday, but by the weekend, the sun will be out and the area will start to dry out.

Lake Tahoe and Sierra communities woke up to a white Christmas! Lake Tahoe, at lake level, saw between 5 and 10 inches of fresh snow overnight. Some of the area ski resorts saw several feet of snow overnight. In the past 24-hours, Palisades Tahoe received 2 feet of snow, and Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe received just under 3 feet of fresh snow! The Greater Reno Area primarily saw rain on Christmas Eve. In fact, 1.25 inches of rain was recorded at Reno Tahoe International Airport, breaking the previous record of 0.73 inches…..
