CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) – While a lot of people are enjoying the holidays, some are getting ready to start college classes. Western Nevada College is offering several online accelerated courses during its Winter Session. For some students, like first-year student Mariana Alonzo, it’s a chance to get a jump on their higher education goals when they have time in their schedule.
“I’m studying medicine right now. I’m doing pre-med so I am doing all my prerequisites here,” says Mariana Alonzo.
Even though Alonzo has only been a college student for a few months now, the Carson City native isn’t ready to let her studies lapse during her first winter break. “I’m going to be taking European Civilization,” she says. “I am taking it because in order to get my associates degree, it is a prerequisite I have to get and I like the idea of getting it out of the way before the spring semester.”…
