RTC addresses backlash over the Northeast Connector proposal

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – The Regional Transportation Commission is floating the idea of a new roadway connecting Sparks to the Reno Tahoe Industrial Center. “The Northeast Connector Feasibility Study began last February in 2025. The study looked at, would it be feasible to connect a new roadway from Sparks, Spanish Springs area out to the TRI Centers off of USA Parkway in Storey County,” said Dale Keller, Deputy Executive Director, RTC.

After months of compiling data and community input, Keller says a new roadway would alleviate traffic and improve safety on the busy highway. “What we see on i-80, there’s been over 150 crashes on that corridor a year. Think about it, that’s every other day. So there is definitely a need to do something,” added Keller.
