Applications for Health Care Student Loan Program taken beginning January 19, 2026

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) -Nevada may have come up with a way to keep current in-state medical professionals here and attract out-of-state professions to the silver state.

State Treasurer Zach Conine says there’s a shortage of doctors, nurses and mental health experts just about anywhere you go in Nevada.

“Think underserved communities,” says Conine. “There are parts of Reno and there are parts of Las Vegas that are underserved. It is hard to get in to see a family doctor. It can be hard to see a specialist. There are parts of our rural communities where it’s hard to see any doctor.”…
