Peppermill acquires former Lazy 8 casino project site from Red Hawk

Peppermill Casinos just bought the site of a former casino project that fueled several lawsuits in Sparks, raising questions on whether it plans to resurrect a proposal for a gaming development at the site.

Peppermill acquired the vacant land from Red Hawk Land Co. for $27.5 million, according to the Washoe County Recorder’s office. Red Hawk has owned the property for nearly two decades since buying it from Reynen and Bardis in 2007 for $2.97 million, according to records from the Washoe County Assessor’s office.

The sale comprised 10 vacant parcels totaling just under 21 acres. No tax exemptions were claimed for the sale, which generated a $112,750 transfer tax…
