Reno Police prepare for anticipated ice protests

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – The Reno Police Department is monitoring local protests related to immigration and anticipates additional demonstrations this weekend. The department plans to increase staffing as needed to manage any gatherings.

Reno Police Chief Kathryn Nance addressed the department’s approach. “We are our there to ensure you have opportunities to peacefully demonstrate, but we are not going to tolerate behavior that is violent or aggressive by anybody involved,” Nance stated.

Local anti-ICE protests have been ongoing, with thousands of people, including students and teachers across the Washoe County School District, previously raising concerns and frustrations about increased immigration crackdowns. Past demonstrations have seen students from several high schools and middle schools participating in school walkouts to express their views.
