A late-night rescue unfolded near Mount Rose Summit after two hikers became lost in snowy conditions and needed help finding their way back to safety.
The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team says it assisted the hikers Friday night after they went off trail and realized they could not safely make it back to their vehicle. With darkness setting in and winter weather moving in, the pair called 911 for help.
Search and rescue volunteers were able to locate both individuals in the snowy backcountry. Deputies noted signs of mild hypothermia in one hiker, who was wrapped in a warming blanket, placed in a rescue sled, and transported out of the area…
