NEVADA COUNTY, Calif. — Family, friends and neighbors across the Bay Area, Truckee-Tahoe and Idaho are mourning six women killed in this week’s avalanche in Nevada County, as the Truckee community grapples with what its mayor called a profound sense of loss.
The avalanche claimed eight lives, with one additional person presumed dead. As crews continue working to retrieve the remaining victims, grief has settled heavily over Truckee.
