Truckee Safeway vehicle attack case suspended

TRUCKEE, Calif. — The Nevada County District’s Attorney Office shared updates regarding the Truckee Safeway vehicle attack.

Jonathan Maurer, the defendant in the case, faces eight counts of attempted murder, multiple counts of assault with a deadly weapon, and several sentencing enhancements. The enhancements include allegations of great bodily injury and prior criminal history, according to the Nevada County District Attorney’s Office.

Maurer appeared in court Tuesday, Feb. 24, for entry of plea, but criminal proceedings have been suspended after the court declared a doubt as to the defendant’s competency pursuant to Penal Code section 1368. The court ordered a competency evaluation consistent with statutory requirements…
