Road Ahead: E-bike and scooter safety

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Electric bikes and scooters are becoming the go-to rides for kids. But with their growing popularity also comes the increased risk of injuries.

Jorge Montano, a Pediatric Injury Prevention Specialist at Renown Children’s Hospital, says staff are seeing firsthand how severe those injuries can be.

“We have a unique perspective. Renown Children’s Hospital being the only Level II trauma center for pediatrics. We really get to see the majority of the major injuries that are happening in these kiddos. And with that we really noted an average age between 10 to about 13 years old of those most severe injuries that we’re treating; specifically, fractures and traumatic brain injuries is what we’ve been seeing,” said Montano…
