Washoe school board to discuss 2026-27 budget, boundary changes, aviation grant

Budget decisions, potential school boundary changes and a $1.3 million aviation education grant are among the major items up for discussion when the Washoe County School District Board of Trustees meets Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the district’s Administration Building in Reno.

Trustees will take a deep dive into the district’s proposed fiscal year 2026–27 budget, with discussion expected around several issues that could shape staffing and programming next school year. Board members will review the status of adding additional Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA)-sanctioned sports, possible reimbursement of district assessment software costs and whether to preserve early learning assistant positions at certain 1- and 2-star schools and 3-star collaborative schools for one more year.

The budget conversation is also expected to include how to use savings from school consolidations to support high-needs schools, early childhood enrollment staffing guidelines, guest teacher pay, potential expansion of Medicaid reimbursements for school-based services and possible revisions to future school calendars.
