RENO, NV (March 8) — This weekend two large car events happened in Reno. Great weather set the stage for both events.
• Need2Speed is going to start having a Karts & Kars meet on the first Saturday of the month. Not only was the parking lot full but the area in front of the business as well as the patio was used.
One of the cars on the patio was this beautiful Lotus. Usually it was surrounded by a crowd of admirers.
Right across from it was a yellow Ferrari. It was on of the last cars put into this area.
The parking lot drew many types of cars and trucks. It even drew a young man riding his scooter.
There was a table in the parking lot where Roberto and his cousin were selling miniature cars. They had all types including ones that changed color if they were in the sunlight. Those interested can call Roberto at 775-848-6778.
Over in one row Pat Gates had his 1964 Chevy Nova 400 on display.
Asked about the car he said, “It’s got a small block 396 with over 500 horsepower, over 430 at the rear wheels. It’s got a Trenek TKX 5-Speed, Dana 60 and a 373 Posi. I’ve done the motor and transmission and it already had the rear end in it.
“I did the rear springs, put the AC in, that’s about it that I’ve done to it. It came pretty clean, still original paint, all original body panels and trim on it. I’m the third owner, original California car. That helped keep in clean and rust free.”
Asked how it drives he smiled and said, “Like a bat out of hell.”
Not far away was an unusual BMW. This one has right hand drive and was sporting a Japanese license plate on the front…
