Slight gain in Sierra Valley groundwater

Directors of the Sierra Valley Groundwater Management District discussed an annual groundwater sustainability report when they met March 16. Also on the agenda were grant opportunities and approval of two $60,000 recharge land-lease agreements.

Sustainability report shows increase

Gus Tolley, project hydrogeologist, and Plumas County Planning Director Tracey Ferguson presented a draft of the Groundwater Sustainability Plan Annual Report. Sierra Valley had more precipitation in 2025 than the historical median by about 108.2%, according to the report. While more rain came in, less groundwater was taken from the basin — approximately 700 acre-feet less.
