Planning Commission to review short-term rentals, state building, church project

Carson City planning commissioners have a packed agenda Wednesday and will start their meeting at 3 p.m. in the board room of the community center, 851 E. William St.

Planning commissioners will take up the issue of short-term rentals in Carson City. Currently, short-term rentals — deemed a transient use by city officials if a property is used less than 28 days — are allowed in the same zoning districts as hotels, such as downtown mixed use or general and retail commercial.

Following discussion at the Board of Supervisors’ retreat Feb. 20, a proposed ordinance would allow STRs in all zoning districts except industrial. A draft STR ordinance was not finalized as of March 20, but planning commissioners are expected to consider amending zoning code and to make a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors.
