A problem first raised two years ago is still creating barriers for patients trying to access Renown’s clinic at The Summit in south Reno. Families say a routine appointment can turn into a struggle because handicapped accessible parking and wheelchair access are not located near the front entrance.
Karen Hensel said she discovered the issue while taking her 91-year-old veteran father, Don Waite, to the office. “Pulled up by the renowned medical center because I thought that there would be an ADA parking there and a wheelchair access. And then once I got him out, I realized there’s only a solid curb,” Hensel said.
Hensel said her father needs close handicapped parking, but the designated spots are located several stores down from Renown. To reach the clinic, they must cross the parking lot then she has to push his wheelchair up two steep ramps.
“Before when he was in a cane, he came here one time and he couldn’t do it, and so he ended up going to a different facility,” Hensel said…
