If you visit Donner Lake near Truckee this summer, expect some changes along the shoreline.
The Town of Truckee is rolling out a series of transportation improvements along Donner Pass Road aimed at reducing parking chaos, protecting the lake from erosion and making the corridor safer for pedestrians and cyclists. Most of the changes are being implemented in May.
The biggest issue has been unsanctioned roadside parking during peak season. Vehicles regularly squeeze onto shoulders that are not designed for parking, blocking bike lanes, creating hazards for pedestrians and contributing to erosion that sends sediment into the lake.
