Central Virginia parents urge schools to balance technology and hands-on learning in classrooms

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — More than 2,500 parents across Central Virginia are urging school leaders to reevaluate how technology is used in classrooms. Many are advocating for stricter limits on student screen time and increased use of traditional learning methods.

The effort has gained momentum through online petitions in Chesterfield County, Henrico County and Richmond, where parents outlined a series of requests aimed at reducing students’ reliance on technology during the school day.

“We are not trying to take technology away — we’re trying to just be more intentional about the way that we use technology,” said Amber Rhodes, a Chesterfield County parent and former teacher who helped organize the petitions…
