HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) — Two fires in less than 24 hours destroyed a Hopewell home, but for the owner, disaster really struck when the contractor her insurance company hired bailed on the job.
Natural disasters can bring unpredictable damage to your home. Wilma Atkinson knows the costly problem all too well after her home of 60 years caught on fire on February 3, 2024. Fire crews responded to her home that day to extinguish the fire. The next day, the flames reignited.
“My God, I cried all the way home,” said Atkinson after her neighbors called her to let her know her home went up in flames again.
Like many homeowners, Atkinson turned to her insurance company for help as she started the repair process. Before she signed, Atkinson said several contractors came knocking, “I hate to say it, but like vultures, they were like vultures.”…
