Rain does not wash away spirits at ‘Hooray for Hopewell History’

America’s 250th anniversary was celebrated in Hopewell on June 27 until a steady downpour laced with lightning occurred around 5 p.m. The event, Hooray for Hopewell History, took place in downtown and City Point.

The festival offered locals and tourists an opportunity to experience in both fun and education ways the people, places and stories that have shaped Hopewell and the nation.

“This community event is a celebration of our past, present and future,” Mayor Johnny Partin said. “We are paying tribute to those leaders that came before us paving our way today, while looking forward to a bright future.”…
